Happy New Year’s EVE

I love New Year’s Eve. The whole day.

What other day do we get to claim “This is the end. Tomorrow it is all new with a fresh start!”?

Some people make resolutions. (I hear some keep them too!) Others just vow that “This is going to be the year I get that job/find that special someone/have that baby!” (I pray those of you who declare those things, get them.) Then there are those who see it as just another day, much like the others. (To those I say, grab the chance at new starts! You’ll grow from it.)

This beginning of a new year feels different for me somehow. More exciting! I suppose it is because we already know we have big changes coming. Changes we didn’t ask for; yet, nevertheless, we are embracing. Life changes. Does it scare me? Sure it does. Does it thrill me and make my heart beat just a bit faster? Oh yes. It definitely does that!

Today is the ending. The last day of a very tough year. The last day of a year where we had quite a few “near misses” (and I am so thankful they were misses). The last day of a year filled with “What are we going to do?” and “Where do we go from here?” The last day of a year we will never have to repeat. Ever. (Thankfully)

I love this last day. I love the feeling I get knowing that tomorrow can start fresh. If only in my mind and on my calendar. It will be new and clean and ready to be filled with the new things my life has to offer up. The new experiences. The new opportunities. The new happiness that I know is just waiting for us.

Am I going to make any resolutions? Probably not any of the big ones. I would rather just set some goals and do the best I can to meet them. Without the banner of “New Year’s Resolution” attached to it. But I will set one here. Right now, for you. I will get my 100 things posted before 2005. Maybe. (See I am just no good at the whole resolution thing.)

To you, my friends, I wish you happiness, prosperity and love. Many of my friends out there have hearts that are heavy with sorrow or longing or struggles that we may not even know about. To you, I wish that you find the peace you are seeking. To those who are struggling with the desire for more children, I pray that this is the year for you. To my jobless friends, I hope that this is the year for you to get that perfect (or at least bill-paying) job.

We have been blessed this year. We have met new friends. We have grown closer to old friends. We have been blessed with the generousity of strangers and friends alike during our darkest times. If you glance the surface, you may see a tough year in retrospect. When you look deeper, you see blessing after blessing. I am looking deeper.

Happy NEW Year to each of you. I love you all and am so thankful that you take the time to visit me here, read what I have to say and let me know what you think. I count this blog and it’s readers among my many blessings of 2003.

Enjoy the last day of 2003! Buckle up and get ready. Tomorrow it all starts new. With a clean calandar and a clean slate.

Happy New Year’s Eve, my friends!
